Before joining Nodes, we were previously known as William Beckett Funeral Directors, and you can find us at our Archway funeral home in London.
For many years, the Beckett family have helped the community by providing a private and peaceful space to support and advise families after the loss of a loved one at Whittington Hospital. We have also donated many historical artefacts to Highgate Cemetery to support their heritage tours.
Archway has always been home to a huge Irish community. It is a privilege to conduct Irish funerals at the local Roman Catholic churches, St Joseph's and St Gabriel's. From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
I found them really unorganised
At one of the most difficult times in our lives, William Beckett provided compassion, professionalism, and true care that went above and beyond our expectations. Every detail was handled with sensitivity and respect, allowing us to focus on grieving and honoring our loved one. Their guidance through the entire process was gentle yet confident, and they made us feel supported every step of the way. We are deeply grateful for their kindness and the dignity they brought to the service.
Denise is the most beautiful soul I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her gentle and down to earth approach made the process so easy and stress free.
As a funeral celebrant, it might seem unusual for me to be reviewing a Funeral Director. However, not all funeral directors are the same (and I work with many). At a time when decisions are already tough and it's hard to know who to turn to and to understand all the choices and options available, you need to trust that you will get the right advice. Denise who arranges the funerals, does so with a kind, personal, and thoughtful service in an industry where this is surprisingly rare - always friendly and compassionate and will support you with complete professionalism.
My mum's funeral is tomorrow 27th October 23. I can only say that Denise who has been dealing with my mum has been the most comfort, supportive, caring woman I have met. I went to William Beckett's totally in the dark and in an unknown place and she made it so comforting and easy for me. I can't thank her enough xxx
I thought the service provided by William Beckett Funeral Directors was second to none. Denise was thoughtful, compassionate and made several really excellent suggestions. I felt she really tried to get to know my mother. Her attention to detail was exemplary and she was completely in tune with the needs of the family. Her suggestion of the St Marylebone Crematorium was wonderful and her selection of Karen as the Celebrant was perfect. Karen too went the extra yard and contributed hugely to the success of the service. She pitched it exactly right and, like Denise, I felt she really wanted the service to be special ... and it was. It was a celebration and was very positively commented on by everyone who attended. Mourners said what a joyful funeral it was. Karen provided some lovely touches: daffodils to be laid on the coffin as we exited, a candle gifted to us with Gwyneth's name on it, again, very close attention to detail. I, and all who attended, could not have hoped for a more appropriate celebration of my mother's life. It was a perfect send off! Thank you Denise and Karen! 10/10.
Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. It is incredibly helpful to other families in the same circumstances as yourself. I am glad that you chose William Beckett Funeral Directors to look after your mother. I am pleased to hear that you found our staff to be professional and respectful. I am pleased that the arrangements for your mother were carried out to your satisfaction. Your comments will provide great encouragement to the team to keep doing their job to the best of their ability.
